Mae ymarfer creadigol Gwenllian Spink, sy’n gerfluniol yn bennaf, wedi'i wreiddio o fewn ecolegau diwylliannol. Fel artist a hwylusydd sy’n byw yng Ngogledd Cymru, mae'r archwiliad hwn wedi'i harwain ar daith trwy amser, o safleoedd claddu Neolithig i fytholegeiddio cyfoes o ordyfiant algâu, gan archwilio cysylltiadau dynol â'n cynefinoedd.

Mae'r prosesau a'r deunyddiau a ddefnyddir yn ei hymarfer yn hanfodol i fframwaith cysyniadol y gwaith ei hun. Golyga hyn blaenoriaethu deunyddiau bioddiraddadwy, adfywiol, neu wedi’u hailgylchu, yn ogystal â disodli arferion sy'n niweidiol i'r amgylchedd gan flaenoriaethu prosesau cynaliadwy.

Predominantly sculptural, Gwenllian Spink’s practice is rooted in cultural ecologies. As an artist and facilitator currently based in North Wales, this exploration has led her on journeys through time, from Neolithic burial sites to present-day mythologising of algal blooms, exploring human entanglements with our surrounding environments. She approaches this as a human that lives inside and through nature, not as something separate from nature.

The processes and materials used within her practice are intrinsic to the conceptual framework of the work itself. This means an ever-evolving practice of prioritising biodegradable, regenerative and recycled materials, as well as replacing environmentally harmful practices with sustainable processes.

Anemochory

Mae yna air i ddisgrifio gwasgariad hadau wrth law'r gwynt, sef ‘anemochory’.

Yn dynwared patrymau’r gwynt yn ôl map sy’n cofnodi ei symudiadau byw yn fyd-eang, dyma gerflun perfformiadol sy’n ddibynnol ar gydweithrediad. Trwy gydweithio efo’r gwynt, hadau a dwylo dynol, dyma wasgaru hadau blodau gwyllt sydd wedi’u hymgartrefu o fewn muriau castell Caernarfon.

Sylwch chi ar y boced canfas? Rhowch eich llaw ynddi, i mewn i bwll o hadau. Cymerwch a ddyrnaid, a’i osod yng nghledr y cerflun. Ar ddiwrnod gwyntog, bydd yr hadau yn cael eu cario’n sydyn gan y gwynt; ar ddiwrnod mwyn, bydd eu mudiad yn un araf.

Dros amser, bydd yr hadau yn teithio drwy dir y castell. Efallai bydd rhai yn ymgartrefu ger y muriau, yn gwasgaru ar draws y dre, neu yn mudo i gynefinoedd gwahanol. Tra bydd rhai yn tyfu i blanhigion, efallai bydd rhai yn diflannu i ddyfroedd y Fenai. Bydd eraill eto yn cymryd eu hamser, gan aros am eu diwrnod i egino.

There is a word to describe the dispersal of seed by the wind, which is ‘anemochory’.

Mimicking the patterns of the wind according to a map that records its live movements globally, this performative sculpture depends on collaboration. By collaborating with the wind, seeds and human hands, the sculpture will scatter the seeds of wildflowers to be found within the walls of Caernarfon castle.

Can you see the canvas pocket? Place your hand inside, into a pool of seeds. Grab a handful, and place it into the palm of the sculpture. On a breezy day, the seeds might suddenly lift with the wind; on a mild day, their movements will be slow.

Over time, the seeds will travel through the grounds of the castle. Some may settle near the walls, spread across the town, or migrate to different habitats. While some may grow into plants, others may disappear into the waters of the Menai. Others still will take their time, waiting for their day to germinate.
